Welcome

Emmanuelle Volle, MD, PhD, HDR

Current position: researcher

Neurologist and INSERM tenured researcher at the Paris Brain Institute (ICM), Salpêtrière hospital, Paris, France.

Research field: cognitive neurosciences

I work as a Principal Investigator (PI) in the FrontLab team, which aims to study the functions and dysfunction of frontal systems. The Frontlab is led by Prof. Richard Levy and is part of the ICM neurocognitive research activity.

My current research aims at understanding the neurocognitive mechanisms of high-level cognitive functions such as creativity, problem-solving, and reasoning: How creative ideas emerge? How do we solve novel problems or adapt to new situations?

To this aim, I use a variety of cognitive neuroscience methods, combining experimental psychology with neuroimaging approaches, such as functional MRI, brain connectivity, network sciences, voxel-based morphometry, electrophysiology, and brain electrostimulation, and importantly patient studies. I am also interested in developing clinical applications to better evaluate or predict high-level cognitive deficits in neuropsychiatric diseases.
